Promotion materials is on-going process of improvement and follows the EU Communication and Visibility plan, meaning most of the promotion material will adjust and add some important info into the materials and preaper for publication in both English and Laos version such as EC-ICS brochure and EC-ICS spot radio, spot TV and EC-ICS documentary.

The new promotional materials have been improved according to lesson learnt and feedback the team got from the producers and customers and go together with them to conduct promotion in the market level. The team found it is not functioning and create unsustainable for the activity in the future, therefore the retailers are to reflect with the producers what is best and to apply new improvement method to conduct the awareness campaigns by retailer at the market. By brining producer and retailers closer with the help of LWU, the result is that more people get interested in ICS and retailers to order more ICS for their shops..

In February 2013 (from 19–20 and 23-25),  SVK promotion officer & LWU promoted new ICS at the market & public festival at 8 districts, as Automphone, Atsaphangthong, Champhone, Xonbuly, Xaiphuthong, songkhon, Phalanxai and phine district in Sanvannakhet Province.

The purpose to give ICS characteristic, coaching how to record stove sale and demonstrate water boiling test between Taodum & ICS, as a result 600 customers and 8 retailers understand the benefits of ICS.

190 stoves were sold via the promotion of LWU.

Objective of the activity want to know the location of the retailer and stove type at the market in the Savannakhet Province.

The data related to stoves and the details of the retailers were collected when visiting the shops, asking questions directly to the retailers. In most of the case, interviewees were the owner of the shop or a close member of the family.

The survey team also spotted the geographical position of retailers on a paper map according to landmarks, during the field visit. Back from the field, these positions were entered directly on Google Map using both map and satellite views.

There are 157 retailers have been done. And now 35 retailers sold new ICS in the Savannakhet Province.


During April 9-10, 2013,  SVK team facilitated discussion among producers and retailers on the issue of stove is not enough and not delivery to retailers as market’s demand, the purpose of this activity is to facilitate, link the communication and build good relationship between producers and retailers, to encourage producers to produce more stoves to the retailers on times, the result of this event that the producers can understand and know demand of the stove and retailers can give feedback on the quantity and quality of stoves.

Team have been follow up after this event, that retailer are order more stove from producers, by the way the producers have to continue produce and speed up the stove production process to meet with the demand of the market in Seno and as SVK.

On 21-23 May 2013, SVK team have discussed with producers after finding 5 bad quality stoves at the retailer’s shop, team took back to producers to replace with the good quality.

On  23-31 May 13, producers survey in VTE Capital. This survey is aimed to looking up for the existed producers and people who are interested in stove production in VTE. We have presented to 25 producers and most of them were interested to involve in our programme.

From 11 to 22 February the team gather data on village profile. The objective of this activity is to know how many producers and how many labourers each village host. As of now the programme has data on producers and labours both villages, for the next step we will go more detail to get data of producers in each village.

On 27-28th February the team visited Nonsavanh village, Sanasomboun district, Champasack province to collect data for producer profile and village profile. In village we met an interested producer (Mr. Mai). The objective is collect data that essential to put and link in to database of programme, this information will be used for monitoring system and all data of producers will be used for conduct the training course on stove production process especially the producers in Nonsavanh village, Sanasomboun district, Champasack province to start run the stove production in Champasack province and able to ensure for the stove to use on the promotion activities on June 2013 for Champasack province.

From 28 May to 10 June 2013, ICS had put an announcement on newspapers both VTE Mai and VTE Times to call for interest producers; there were 9 people interested to attend the orientation workshop.

After team collect all the list of interest producers, the team will inviting the interested producers to attend the Orientation workshop in Vientiane which will be organized on 5th July 13.

On 19-28 February 2013, ICS staff visited the producer Mr. Khammai in Nonsavanh village to work on using ICS production tools to produce Taopayat. There are 4 workers as Ms. Nang, Ms. Noy, Ms. Khanh and Mr. Mai, to start produce 5 stoves per person for learning ICS stove production process in Nonsavanh village. The first step, they soaked the clay for one night this to make sure that clay are well absorb water and then they mixed the clay with black rice husk ash, by using foot to step on, at that time we found that they used less for the black rice ash in mixing so the clay very stick together and difficult for use stove butterflying to cut around inside the stove body, after that we have discussed about the problem met with 4 workers that why the stove body is not equal in each part the finalize let them continue to make stove trimming and dried about 24 hour and then waiting for the stove firing in the kiln until the last step is assembly to complete the stove production process by using ICS production tools. The result for stove molding of 4 producers in Nonsavanh village is able to produce Taopayat due to everybody has a lot of experience from stove production for existing stove.

This activity was aimed to know and understand all the production process of each producer and also it need to collect data of stove dimensions and draw materials check. This was done by team member in April 2013. They are focusing on producer profile form and conduct data collection as well as identify interest producer to collaborate and practice to produce ICS in two villages, Nonsavanh and Khili, Sanasomboun district, Champasak province. The result of activities is that in Ban Nonsavanh, 6 producers and 11 stove labours and 10 distributors expressed clear interest and agreed to join project. And at Ban khilli, there is two producers who are interested to join and 13 stove labours.

From the 28-30 May 2013, ICS Champasak organized training in effective stove production for local producers, with a total 52 participants, including 28 women producers, the training participants included 6 entrepreneurs, 31 of stove producer labour from Ban Khili and Ban Nonsavanh, 2 from producer’s labours from Beukthong village, 2 heads of the villages, 2 DST and 1 LWU from CPS, the Vice governor of Sanasombuon district is pay attention to be a chairman and provided opening as well as closing speech, 6 ICS staff and 1 SNV Advisor.

This training was included the inputs of two stove producers from Ban Beukthong in SVK province, who have experience producing new ICS since the programme initial its implementation in 2012.

On 8 to 10 May 2013, started testing of the PTT5 V-shape compare with PTT3 at SNV. This v-shape stove was modified from the current PTT3 by make remodeling the combustion chamber into a V-shape.

On 14 – 16 May, the testing of PTT5 V-shape have been began and again to ensure the efficiencies stability.

On May, team was visit end-users in SVK and give new stove for test and bring their old stove to On 21 to 23 May, test in the DST Lab (the stove taken from KPT HH) after five months used to compare with PTT3 and also tested the PTT4 18 holes around combustion chamber (adapted from Cambodia’s stove) compare with PTT3.
